Good mental health is more than just the absence of mental illness. It is a state of positive wellbeing where an individual is able to:
- Cope with the normal stresses of life
- Work productively
- Realise their potential
- Contribute to the community
- Feel good and function well
There are a wide range of conditions which affect mental wellbeing which vary in their severity. About 45% of Australians aged 16-85 will experience a common mental-health related condition such as depression, anxiety or a substance use disorder.
