It is with a great deal of pleasure that I am writing this post, to introduce myself to you. And to briefly explain how my services can be of a real benefit to you. I’m very proud to be the newest member of the team here at Northside Health. I’m very much looking forward to being a part of this fantastic medical centre.
I am a husband to my lovely wife and father to our 2 young children. We have lived in beautiful Coffs Harbour for five years, having previously lived in Brisbane. We certainly prefer the family friendly coastal lifestyle over the hustle and bustle of a big city. In my youth the life I chose to lead was a difficult path to travel. So, I am no stranger to many of the issues that I help people with today. They were all patterns that I had learnt and it took me many years to unlearn them. Thankfully I managed to do so. I do not want you to have to wait so long and struggle as much, to be able to live your life to its full potential. 1. What are “Patterns” and how do we develop them?
Most of us have encountered difficulties of one kind or another in our lives. You know the ones: parents getting divorced whilst you’re still in school, getting bullied for being overweight or having “weird” hair, being cheated on by “the one”, not quite making the team or missing out on that dream job you always wanted.
The list goes on and on, ranging from mildly traumatic to extremely traumatic. During these events in our lives, we sometimes sub-consciously adopt certain routines or “patterns” of thoughts and/or behaviours to get us through these various difficult times. Maybe you turned to alcohol for comfort or company? Or did you take up smoking to try and relieve the stress of the situation? Or you may have blamed yourself and developed a low self-esteem and now you struggle with confidence still today? These sub-conscious decisions are usually taken when we are in an emotional frame of mind and we’re not quite thinking clearly and we’re certainly not thinking about our long-term health.
Where we tend to run into trouble with these various coping patterns, is when they stick around for months or in many cases, years after we’ve picked ourselves up and moved on from the original trauma. The pattern has now become something that you do automatically (sub-consciously) for even minor issues like a tough day at work or an argument with your partner… It’s time to move on.
